Fruits and Veggies for your dog? DOGSWELL® separates the safe fruits and veggies from the bad below!

Have you ever wondered if dogs need fruits and vegetables too? Well, the answer is YES! Fruits and veggies help to maintain a balanced diet in dogs. A diet consisting of purely protein is not recommended… Dogs are not the carnivores we make them out to be! But it is important to know which fruits and vegetables are safe for your pooch! First, let’s go through the list of those foods that you want to avoid feeding to your dog.

DANGEROUS WHEN INGESTED:
-Avocados: There is a toxic component of avocados called “persin.” It can be found in the leaves, fruit, seed, and bark of the plant. A little bit can cause an upset stomach, but any more can cause serious gastrointestinal problems.

-Raisins and Grapes: The actual toxin in these fruits is unknown; however, experts agree that, if ingested, the consequences could result in kidney failure and in extreme cases death.

-Onions: Onions can cause Heinz Body Anemia if ingested. This will cause an abnormality in red blood cells and potentially lead to anemia if a sufficient amount is ingested.

-Mushrooms: Although it does depend on the type of mushroom, the results of ingestion are damage to liver, heart, and kidneys, and possibly death. Do your pup a favor and avoid feeding them mushrooms at all costs.
